David O'Brien was a Kiwi musician who went to the UK in 1971 to try his hand at the big time he said a the time he wanted to be the first musician from New Zealand to make it to #1 in the UK. He returned there again in 1973 to have another crack at it and stayed for 5 years this time and was starting to make a name for himself when along came Punk which virtually sunk any hope he had at success. He made an appearance at Knebworth 1978 but was slotted in on the Friday night when most of the punk bands appeared and was booed of the stage.

As this single was released in 1978 on "Ode" a New Zealand label I assume he must have returned to New Zealand soon after. Side 1 of the single has a funky feel about it, while side 2 is straight out late 70's pop. David Released 3 albums 1 in the UK and 2 at home in New Zealand. David now lives in New Zealand and runs Slow Boat Records.

Boom Crash Opera are a pop-rock band formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1985. Initially based around the songwriting partnership of Richard Pleasance (guitar/bass/vocals 1985 - 1992) and Peter Farnan (guitar/bass/keys/vocals) Boom Crash Opera also includes Dale Ryder (lead vocals), Peter 'Maz' Maslen (drums/vocals), Greg O'Connor (keyboards/guitar) and Ian Tilley (bass/vocals 1992–present).

They released seven albums and an EP in the thirteen years of their recording career, and continue to play occasional shows.Boom Crash Opera were signed to WEA records Australia and in 1986 released their debut single "Great Wall" (produced by Steve Brown). The single reached number 5 on the ARIA National charts. Their self titled debut album, released in 1987, (produced by Alex Sadkin) went Gold and also featured the follow-up singles "Hands Up In The Air" (produced by Steve Brown), "City Flat" and "Her Charity".

Maria Dallas (born Marina Devcich or Marina Devčić, between of the 1940s and 1950s) was discovered at a talent contest in small town Morrinsville, New Zealand. Her first single "Tumblin' Down", written by Jay Epae, released in 1966 and made it to #11 in the charts. It also won her a Loxene Golden Disk Award. She released several albums and singles before moving on to Australia in 1967 and then to Nashville. She returned to New Zealand in 1970 and scored a #1 hit with the song "Pinocchio"

For a time in the mid-sixties life was a fairytale come true for a young woman from Morrinsville named Marina Devcich. One minute there she was the second youngest of twelve children working as a hairdresser in her home town. Eighteen months later she had won the Loxene Golden Disc Award with her first record, and had just returned from four months in the USA, recording with Chet Atkins and appearing on the Grand Ole Opry.

It all started in 1964 when Marina and Isabel Leigh won a Johnny Cooper talent quest in Morrinsville. Further solo performances with the Lew Manson Band around the Waikato area followed. One night in 1965 she was booked to appear in a Morrinsville hotel with Howard Morrison and Auckland bandleader Mike Perjanik. Mike went straight back to Auckland to tell Viking Records' chief Ron Dalton that he'd found his next star in the Waikato. Almost overnight the girl with the power packed voice was in an Auckland recording studio, recording Jay Epae's "Tumblin' Down". Ron Dalton decided to rename her Maria Dallas.

"Tumblin' Down" backed with "When I Get Through With You" was a very infectious number. Released in 1966, the song made it to number 11 on the national charts and was entered into the Loxene Golden Disc Awards, where it took first place. Despite this success, Maria never felt at home as a pop singer and soon returned to her country music roots.

Viking churned out six albums during 1966 and 1967, and a similar number of singles. None of the singles faired as well as the first.

Later in 1967 she moved to Australia, before venturing to Nashville, where she did a considerable amount of recording. Although singles were still released during her absence, New Zealanders had almost forgotten about her until she returned in 1970 with a song called "Pinocchio" which went all the way to number 1 on the national charts.

Again she couldn't reproduce her success after that, but Viking capitalised by releasing another album in 1971 and a follow up in 1972.

Maria married an Australian and has lived there for many years.

Custard are an Australian indie rock band from Brisbane formed in 1990.

The band were originally known as Custard Gun and featured David McCormack on vocals and guitar, Paul Medew on bass, James Straker (later in The Melniks) on guitar and Shane Brunn (who later formed Hugbubble and Vanlustbader) on drums. After a few shows and line up changes (namely James being replaced by Matthew Strong) Custard Gun morphed into Custard. Custard existed for about a decade (albeit with revolving line up of drummers - Gavin Herrenberg, Danny Plant, Glenn Thompson et al.). The band released five albums (Buttercup/Bedford, Wahooti Fandango, Wisenheimer, We Have the Technology and Loverama), two EPs (Gastanked and Brisbane) a 7" single ("Rockfish Anna"), various CD singles, two compilations of re-issued and rare material (Wacked Not Wacky and Brisbane 1990-1994) and a posthumous greatest hits compilation entitled Goodbye Cruel World. During their heyday they were a popular live act, appearing prominently for several years in the Triple J Hottest 100.

They are best known for their 1998 synth-driven single "Cry", which appeared on the Triple J Hottest 100 for 1998. The band also performed the song on Hey Hey It's Saturday.
Pink Pills is the second studio album by Australian pop band The Mavis's. It was released in 1998 on Mushroom Records. It reached number 12 on the Australian albums chart. At the 1998 ARIA Awards Pink Pills received ARIA Award nominations for Best Pop Release and Best Cover Art.

Born in Melbourne in 1951, Daryl Somers first appeared on TV as a contestant
on the talent show New Faces in 1968, aged just 16.

The teenage drummer sang with the band he'd formed at school and made the finals
but came second to now famous singer John Williamson.

Undeterred, Daryl continued voice lessons with Diane Dubarry and Evie Hayes.
Two years later, in 1970, the 19 year-old won the New Faces final as a solo
vocalist. Daryl made his professional TV debut as the host of the afternoon
kids' show Cartoon Corner on July 14, 1971 each weekday for the next six and
a half years.

October 9, 1971 saw the birth of Hey, Hey It's Saturday, which Daryl co-hosted
with Collingwood footballer Peter McKenna. Eight weeks in, McKenna was replaced
with a stuffed pink ostrich named Ossie, giving birth to one of the most famous
partnerships in Australian TV history. Over the next 28 years, Daryl and Ossie
became household names. The program gradually evolved from an early morning
kid's cartoon show to an adult's evening variety show. The duo released two
LP's going gold many times over and won a multitude of Logies along the way.

In 1976 Daryl hosted the revived music program Bandstand which made him a teen
idol. He hosted the King of Pop Awards in 1976 and 1977, and was himself a
regular singer on the Graham Kennedy, Don Lane and Mike Walsh shows in the
seventies and eighties.

In 1980 Daryl replaced Tony Barber on quiz show Family Feud, hosting the program
for the next three years – and 713 episodes! In June 1982, he was given his
own night time TV variety show – minus Ossie – aptly named The Daryl Somers
Show, which ran for 18 months. The hard work paid off with Daryl winning his
first Gold Logie Award for Most Popular Personality on Australian TV in 1983
and also being crowned King of Moomba – a Melbourne festival. The Daryl Somers
Show had exposed him to an older audience, and – in February 1984 – TV executives
moved Hey Hey from 8.00am to 9.30pm where it gained a new adult following.
The following year, in June 1985, it was moved to 6.30pm where it stayed for
the next 14 years.

No longer hosting Family Feud and with The Daryl Somers Show finished, 1985
saw Daryl free for a new challenge – the revived Blankety Blanks. Hosting the
early evening quiz show each weeknight put him back in the popularity stakes,
with Daryl winning his second Gold Logie in 1986. In 1987, he sang Waltzing
Matilda and Advance Australia Fair at the then VFL Grand Final at the Melbourne
Cricket Ground – performing to 120 million people worldwide, his biggest audience
ever! He also sang at the 1996 AFL Grand Final.

In 1988 he hosted the TV Week Logie Awards for the first of five times. He
was invited back in 1991, 1996, 1997 and 1998. His third Gold Logie came in
1989, marking his place in Australian showbiz history. Ironically, New Faces
– the very show he appeared on in 1968 – returned to TV in 1989 with Daryl
as host and producer!

Over the years, Daryl has continued to play drums, often thrilling Hey Hey
audiences with impromptu jam sessions with guest pop stars including Stevie
Wonder. Tom Jones and John Farnham.

He sang in many pantomimes in the seventies and, in 1988, played Sancho Panza
in the Melbourne and Brisbane run of the George Fairfax Graeme Murphy production
Man of La Mancha. The following year he appeared as the Billiard Marker in
Mike Batt's The Hunting of the Snark.

An astute businessman, Daryl grew from musician to TV presenter and then producer,
forming his own company with Ernie Carroll – the voice of Ossie Ostrich. Somers
Carroll Pty Ltd went on to own and produce Hey Hey as well many Hey Hey specials
and later the comedy series The Russell Gilbert Show and Gonged But Not Forgotten.
November 21, 1999, marked the final episode of Hey, Hey It's Saturday which
won a record amount of Logies; 12 awards in the comedy flight entertainment
category, and Daryl's 17 other individual awards – including the three prestigious
Gold.

He is a patron of many worthy causes including; Camp Quality, The Lost Dogs'
Home, the West Australia Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO), Generations in Jazz,
Kids Under Cover, and Yarrabah Special School. From 1994- 1999, he fronted
the Northern Territory's international award winning tourism campaign with
the memorable catch cry "You'll never, never know if you never, never go."

In 2000, he was appointed deputy chair of the Council of ScreenSound Australia,
the national screen and sound archive. He is also chair of the Federal Government's
Contemporary Music Touring Program. In 2002, he was appointed the # 1 ticket
holder at his beloved Geelong Football Club.

He returned to the stage in July 2003, playing Harry MacAfee in the 1960s musical
Bye Bye Birdie and in 2004 he produced "Once In A Lyall", an album featuring
his good friend and renowned saxophonist Graeme Lyall. He is married to Julie
da Costa, a former senior artist with the Australian Ballet. They have performed
together twice – in the 2002 and 2003 Australian Ballet School production of
The Nutcracker at Melbourne's Myer Music Bowl as Clara's parents.

Daryl became an ambassador for the Alice Springs Masters Games in 2002. In
the January 2004 Australia Day Honours List, Daryl was awarded Medal of the
Order of Australia for service to the television and entertainment industries,
to charitable organisations and to the community.

Hosting series one of Dancing with the Stars in late 2004 for the Seven Network
marked his return to television after a five year absence. It's unprecedented
ratings success led the resurgence of Seven as Australia's top network.

In November 2005, he released a CD Songlines on his own label called "Now Hear
This!"

Troy Cassar-Daley (born 18 May 1969) is a multi-award-winning country musician from New South Wales, Australia.

He released his first EP, "Dream Out Loud", in 1994 and was nominated for his first Golden Guitar for Best Male Vocalist the same year. He has won many awards, including the 1995 ARIA Award for 'Best Country Record', 1996 Country Music Awards in Tamworth, Troy won the 'Best Male Vocal' Award, 2000 CMAA Awards Best Male Vocal and Song Of The Year for 'They Don't Make 'Em Like That Anymore' and almost a decade's worth of Deadly Awards. He won the ARIA Music Award for best country album in 2006, and once again won the ARIA for Best Country Album in 2009 for his album I Love This Place.

He has been a regular at the Tamworth Country Music Festival (where he first performed at the age of eleven), The Deadlys and a visitor to Nashville, Tennessee, where he performed in the Australian Country Music Showcase.

True Believer is an Australian country music album by Troy Cassar-Daley, released in January 1997 "Good Woman's Love" is a single of that album. Around the album's release, Troy toured with LeAnn Rimes and by himself. At the 1998 Country Music Awards in Tamworth, Troy won three Gold Guitars - Best Male Vocal for his single "Little Things", Album of the Year for True Believer and Best Video for "Little Things".

Scott Cain (born 2 April 1981) is the winner of the third Australian Popstars competition in 2002.

In his earlier years he was a member of a band named Funkapation, who released the album Peanut Butter Brick in 2000. In the same year Funkapation competed in the Hastings Valley Battle of the Bands earning Scott the award for Best Vocalist. He first entered the charts with his version of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", which was featured on a Popstars Final 7 compilation single that peaked at #7. His first solo single after winning the competition was "I'm Moving On", which reached #1 and spent some time on the charts afterwards. However Cain's stardom quickly diminished; despite protest from the artist "Crazy People Rock" was released as the followup single proving much less successful, peaking only at #36. Cain had intended to release own song "Perfect Day" as the second single but was denied the opportunity by his then record label Warner Music Australia. "Perfect Day" was not heard in its original form until Scott's 2004 Album Roller Coaster. His album release Controlled Folly peaked at #49 before sinking to #123 and disappearing entirely. Both of his initial singles are notable for having been written by Gregg Alexander of New Radicals fame. He also released the non-album single "Oceans in Between", a song based upon the events of 11 September 2001.This was a collaboration with Vents limited to 1,000 copies and released only through his website. Scott also performed this song at various charity events.

In 2003 he began hosting the AMTV show on the Disney Channel, and released the song "Step Into My World" on a Roadshow compilation. He won Best New Talent at the 2004 ASTRA awards, beating out other finalists including James Mathieson and Andrew G a public vote saw Scott Cain again win the public support for his role on AMTV Disney Channel take him home the award. The following year, Cain signed with ABC Kids and soon released his second album entitled Roller Coaster, which secured him success with the song Hilary Duff and later that year he secured the support act for Hilary Duff on her national Australian tour.

Scott Cain and Danielle Stearman featured in a film clip for Australian Band 'The Millionaires' for a song Danielle co-wrote with lead singer Jordan Cade called 'Wrong Guy'.

The Sharp was a 3-piece pop/rock band from Melbourne, Australia. The band formed in 1988 with Allan Catlin on double bass and lead vocals, Charlie Rooke on guitar and lead vocals, and Danny Simcic / Piet Collins on drums. The Sharp produced a string of MTV top 40 hit singles, including Train of Thought, Scratch My Back, Talking Sly and Alone Like Me . They became known for their black skivvies and energetic live show, including Catlin balancing on his double bass while playing, and Rooke leaping off the drum kit mid-solo.

Yeah I Want You is the third single release of the This is the Sharp Album by Australian pop-rock band The Sharp the single released in 1993 made it to AUS #44. It was recorded at Platinum Studios in Melbourne, Australia. As well as the single there are 4 great covers "Love Cats" (Cure) "Hanging On The Telephone" (Blondie) "Add It Up" (Violent Femmes) "Vicious" (Lou Reed)

Melodic, smooth guitar pop was the weapon of choice for Australian band the Whipper Snappers who issued their debut single, "You Never Look," in June 1988. They played gigs around Sydney before appearing on the ABC-TV show The Money or the Gun where bands traditionally perform a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." Brad Shepherd from the Hoodoo Gurus replaced guitarist Tim Eaton for their next single, "Sure Know Something," released as part of the Kiss tribute album Hard to Believe in 1990. The Whipper Snappers were joined by guitarist Dave Steel and backing singers Annette Crowe and Joy Howard for their next release, a cover of Russell Morris' "Sweet Sweet Love" (1990). The track also featured on the Various Artists' Mushroom album Used and Recovered By. Late in 1991, Joy Howard left the band and a new lineup of Steve Waters (keyboards), Christian Powers (guitar), Lara Goodridge (backing vocals, violin), and Tim Seckold (drums) released the EP See My Finger, See My Thumb in August 1992. Their version of "Stairway to Heaven" was released later that year, followed by their final EP, Dragster, in December 1993.

Brenda Webb released "Little Black Girl" in 1993 and that year the song was nominated for best independent release. Couldn't find a lot on Brenda but I think this may be a reference to her.
Singer and painter, Brenda Webb of the Gumbaynggir/Bundjalung people of northern NSW has exhibited her works since 2001 in group shows at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Cooperative and Tweed River Art Gallery.
In 2001 Webb had a solo exhibition, “No Place For Arachnophobes” at the Parramatta Riverside Theatre. Webb’s mixed media work, The Rainbow’s Serpent’s Eggs , 2005 was chosen as a finalist in the 2006 Parliament of NSW Indigenous Art Prize at Parliament House, Sydney, NSW. There is also some mention an Aboriginal Actress called Brenda Webb appearing on Neighbours for a few episodes in 1994.

When I found this one I thought I'd made a real find on the back are the particulars for the Twilight's fan club so I assumed that this was a Fan Club exclusive. But it was not to be after a bit of investigating found out that it was just the single and that was the way it came. Still nice to have the single in a picture sleeve not all that common for a single to come packaged this way back then. Great single this double A side made #3 in Brisbane #16 in Sydney #4 in Melbourne #27 in Perth and #1 in their hometown of Adelaide.

Although Zoot were a popular band during the late 1960s, critics labelled them as teenybopper or light bubblegum due primarily to the Think Pink - Think Zoot publicity campaign devised by their management. After relocating to Melbourne in mid-1968, Zoot signed with Columbia Records/EMI Australia and were managed by Wayne de Gruchy, they recorded their first single, "You'd Better Get Goin' Now", a Jackie Lomax cover with David Mackay producing. By December, management by de Gruchy was dropped in favour of Sambell and Jeff Joseph, who also managed Farnham and The Masters Apprentices.

Zoot's second single, "1 × 2 × 3 × 4" was released in December and charted on the Go-Set National Top 40 Singles Chart. By September 1968, Higgins and Stone had returned to Adelaide to be replaced by Rick Brewer (ex-The Mermen with Cotton,[5] Third Party) on drums and Roger Hicks on guitar. Besides radio airplay, the band appeared regularly on local pop music TV show, Uptight!. Their third single, "Monty and Me" continued the Think Pink - Think Zoot theme and was produced by Go-Set writer, Ian Meldrum (later hosted Countdown), which also reached the Top 40 in June. Zoot was voted Top Australian Group in Go-Set's pop poll published in June, just ahead of The Masters Apprentices and Brisbane group, The Avengers. In July they undertook a tour through the eastern states with Ronnie Burns, The Sect and Jon Blanchfield on the bill.

Hicks left by September for The Avengers, and was replaced by Rick Springfield (ex-Icy Blues, Moppa Blues Band, Wickety Wak). Meldrum had produced Wickety Wak's single, "Billie's Bikie Boys" with Birtles as a backing vocalist. From September, Zoot joined other Australian bands on the national Operation Starlift tour, which was generally a publicity success but a financial disaster. October saw the release of "It's About Time" by EMI, Zoot read about it in Go-Set and had expected to re-record its demo quality.

By early 1970, band members had tired of the garish pink outfits and associated harassment and physical abuse, hence, to rid themselves of the bubblegum/teen idol image, they burnt their outfits on TV music show, Happening '70. Zoot then promoted their fifth single "Hey Pinky", released in April, with an advertisement in Go-Set which featured a nude picture of their bums. Their debut album, Just Zoot followed in July and reached No. 8 on Go-Set Top 20 National Albums Chart.

In December they released a hard rock cover of The Beatles' song, "Eleanor Rigby" which became their most popular single when it peaked at No. 4 in March 1971. It remained in the Top 40 for twenty weeks and reached No. 12 on the Top Records for the Year of 1971. Their next single, "The Freak" / "Evil Child", another hard rock song, was released in April and peaked into the top 30.

The Flying Circus was a pioneering Australian country rock band who had a number of pop hits in Australia from 1968 to 1971 and then re-located to Canada from 1971 to 1974 where they also achieved a degree of success.The Flying Circus were formed in August 1968 in Sydney, Australia starting out as a country/folk-rock band. They performed "harmony-rich covers of Byrds, Dylan and Dillards country songs". Like The Byrds, a prominent part of their early sound came from the featured use of a 12 string Rickenbacker guitar.

They were brought together by lead guitarist Doug Rowe who had been a member of New Zealand band, The Castaways, before coming to Australia. The original lineup was Doug Rowe [lead guitar, vocals], James Wynne [lead vocals, rhythm guitar], Bob Hughes [bass, vocals] and Colin Walker [drums]. Bob Hughes left in early 1969 he was replaced by bassist Warren Ward, an experienced musician.

The Flying Circus is one of the most misunderstood, overlooked and underrated Australian groups of the '64-75 period. They're mainly remembered these days for their two early "bubblegum" hits, which is unfortunate, Wrongly labelled a pop band because of their lightweight recordings, they were actually a complex and very progressive live act, the first link in Australia between pop and country rock.

In spite of their musical excellence, and a flying start with three hit records, they never really managed to gain a firm footing in Australia. They eventually found a more receptive audience after relocating to Canada, becoming one of the first Australian acts to establish themselves overseas. Many factors -- changes of musical style, frequent changes of lineup (Rowe and Walker being the only constants) and long periods overseas combined to restrict their chances of establishing a strong and lasting identity with the local media and the public.

Melanie Oxley is the sister of Jeremy Oxley and Peter Oxley, who were founder members of popular Australian pop-rock band The Sunnyboys and younger brother Tim Oxley a musician in his own right.

Oxley performed with Louis Tillett's jazz influenced band Paris Green in 1984. She also performed backing vocals on The Triffids' 1984 EP, Raining Pleasure and for the Johnny Kannis Band in early 1985. In 1985 Oxley together with Chris Abrahams (The Necks), her brother, Peter Oxley, Bill Bilson (The Sunnyboys), Mark Walker (Hoi Polloi) and Colin Bloxsom [who later replaced Walker on Guitar], formed the indie rock band The Sparklers.

The Sparklers released one album Persuasion in 1988. Melanie writing the majority of the songs for that album. Oxley also performed backing vocals for Johanna Pigott's band Scribble, appearing on their 1986 album Pop Art, as well as on Ed Kuepper's 1986 album Rooms of the Magnificent. Australian singer Diana Trask was a popular performer in the U.S. during the '60s and '70s. She was born in Warburton, a small logging town near Melbourne, to a musically talented family. She first gained attention in Australia at age 16 after winning a nationwide talent contest, and began playing on television. Later, she was a part of a pop group which opened for such American stars as Sammy Davis, Jr., who liked her music and suggested she come to the U.S. In 1959, Trask did, but didn't find much success until she spent a week guesting on Don McNeil's Breakfast Club, which led to a contract with Columbia and a regular spot on the TV show Sing Along with Mitch. Both of her initial albums were pop-oriented.

After marrying in the early '60s, Trask returned to Australia, but by 1966, she and her family were living in New York, where she continued trying to further her pop career. After visiting the CMA DJ Convention in Nashville, she decided to focus on country music instead. She debuted on the country charts in 1968 with the low-ranked "Lock, Stock and Teardrops," but later that year she reached the Top 60 with "Hold What You've Got." In 1969, Trask released her debut album Miss Country Soul and toured with Hank Williams, Jr. Although she continued to have modest hits, her popularity didn't take off until 1972, when she had a Top 30 hit with "We've Got to Work It Out Between Us." In 1973, she made the Top 20 twice with "Say When" and "It's a Man's World (If You Had a Man Like Mine)." The following year, she had a Top 15 crossover hit with "Lean on Me." She returned to Australia during the mid-'70s and earned a few gold records there. Trask returned to the U.S. in 1981 to record a pair of singles, but then retired for the remainder of the decade. During the 1990s she again resumed performing.

Barry Hugh Crocker (born 4 November 1935 Geelong) is the Oz equivalent of the UK’s Max Bygraves but I think he is a more consummate performer. He is a stage actor, TV actor, film actor, pop singer, comedian etc and has been able to survive for numerous years in the media. He has awards for singing, performing in stage musicals, acting and TV “Logie” awards for just being a personality. Crocker also has starred alongside Barry Humphries in the title role of The Adventures of Barry McKenzie and its sequel, Barry McKenzie Holds His Own. In 1985 Barry sang the original recording of the theme song for the Australian soap opera Neighbours which was written by Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent the couple responsible for “Downtown” and “The Two of Us”. He started his career in 1969 with a fairly big hit "Please Don’t Go" which is a well orchestrated ballad #22 on the charts. (Tom Mix)

I bought this CD last week and the only reason It's made it's way here to the blog is it was $1 and had the Shock Label on it otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. Now to the CD who is Nick Hardcastle join the queue after a search found out he had been in Home and Away and at the time the CD came out was on the ABC presenting a children's show . Now don't get me wrong the CD isn't a complete waste of time he can sing and has a pleasant enough voice and is no worse than any of the other TV soapie stars that have tried to make the transition but he just doesn't have teen idol stamped all over him just look at the picture. There were a couple of songs I liked and the best of those was the cover of the Turtles song Happy Together. Now to the real reason for the post while searching for info on Nick I found this review which I though was very funny even though the reviewer may have been serious so read on.

"It's just a four-letter word baby how does it hurt?" asks Nick Hardcastle: that four-letter word is "shit" and I can tell you that it hurts like a bastard listening to this generic pop drivel. I guess I was left asking who is Nick Hardcastle? A friend of Dirk Digglers perhaps? Judging by the photos on the album cover he's worked extensively as a Big W catalog model and like Derek Zoolander he has perfected his own brand of "Blue Steel" look. As it turns out he's on an ABC Childrens show titled "Creature Features". Now I get the picture. Struggling actor, ends up on kids show, wants to make it big. Decides that if Hi-Five can do it why can't he and hooks up to record an album. Australian Idol you have a lot to answer for!

OK lets get ready for a blow by blow run down on this big steaming turd of an album!

The album opens with the single 4 letter word. We've already discussed this track in the opening paragraph. Nothing more needs to be said. Next…

State of Mind - (Oooooh Aaaaah, Oooooh Aaaaah). Deep isn't it? Listening to this makes me wish my state of mind was in a coma.

Why? (Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah) Rather appropriate because that's what I keep asking myself when I think about voluntarily telling Sammy that I would review this CD.

Infatuated (Ooooh, Ooooh, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah) This song sounds like Nick having to cope with his groupies. I'll quote a couple of lines from the song and include a translation afterwards "Coz you're infatuated, uneducated" (You're as dumb as dog shit, leave me alone) "You're infatuated, I'm celebrated" (My ego is way too big how could I like someone like you?) I'm assuming this song is showing Nick's sensitive side after another fulfilling one-night stand with his beer goggles on.

This song is titled Deep. Deep like how far I want to bury a sledgehammer in Nick's skull. When there are lines like "Used to fall in love every Saturday night. On Monday I know, I'd let them go. I'm orbiting you like a satellite. Cos you're one I could keep for the rest of the week". Great wholesome stuff for the kiddies! And this little gem "Well I'm at your door, ready to explore. Where do I start to lubricate your heart?" Real slick Nick! Real slick!

Every Day - Can't really comment on this one because I was trying to ignore it while I was writing this review.

On my Way to You - Nick gets top billing on the writing credits on this one. Opening line - "All I can explain is that all my words don't mean a thing". Nuff said.

Happy Together - Yes Nick covers a song where he talks about loving one person for the rest of his life. Stark contrast to the just wanted to root you songs earlier on the album.

I Can Feel It - and if I'm not mistaken it's an aneurism or my brain rotting.

Hangin Around - From the closing lines I assume this is lamenting over when he doesn't pick up on a Saturday night. "I get so mad when nothing comes my way I guess I'll have to make something from nothing".

Another Day - I'm bored and frustrated. Pulling out my own teeth with no anaesthetic and a pair of pliers would be less painful than listening to this track.

Good Time - This reminds me of Kevin Bloody Wilson. "Would you be so kind as to show me where to go? I'm lookin for a good time. I got one thing on my mind yeah I really need to know I'm lookin for a good time." Kev's song is a bit more eloquent though "Do you f*&k on first dates? Does your dad own a brewery? Can I feel your tits? Or will you show 'em to me?"

Come with me - this is officially the last track on the album because the final track "Great Adventure" is classed as a Bonus Track. It's laughable to think that anything on this album could be considered a bonus.

In summary I think the fact that iTunes couldn't find the track listing for this album is testament to Nick's status as a performer. He really has an ordinary voice and I can't see this effort propelling him into the spotlight. Don't give up your day job Nick, I've heard walruses mating that sound better than this tripe!

What a great band the Angels were Live, around this time they were definitely at their pinnacle. I've ripped this from the DVD and ended up with a great sounding concert from their set at Narra a concert which ran over the Australia Day weekend, from Friday 28 January 1983 to Monday 31 January 1983. Between 30,000 and 45,000 people are believed to have attended this concert. I was supposed to attend this concert but owing to a slack arsed bunch of mates the plans to attend fell apart at the last minute and what a concert it was check out the lineup

No surprises here has his best selling single "Wallpaper Roses" #4 Sydney and #10 Melbourne and the rest of the songs are all well known standards of the time given the Sandy Scott treatment the Album itself was a huge seller. Also thanks to Sunshine for his rip of the album saved me time doing mine.

Missy Higgins - The Special Two EP

The Special Two/Drop the Mirror/Blind Winter/You Just Like Me Cause I'm Good In Bed

The Special Two is an old track, originally appearing in raw form on Higgins’ eponymous debut EP. Miles away from the poptastic hits of Scar and Ten Days, the album version of The Special Two is rich with emotional depth, rising piano lines. The radio version contained here loses some of the poignancy of the original mix with much of the piano tinkering removed and the drums pushed more prominently into the mix. But the rising chorus reaching the crescendo of “we will only need each other, we’ll bleed together / our hands will not be taught to hold another’s, ‘cause we’re the special two” is still touching.

The real joys with Higgins’ single releases, however, are the quality b-sides. Drop The Mirror and Blind Winter are both good enough to have made the final album cut. Blind Winter in particular is the sort of dark, edgy pop song that Delta Goodrem seems hell-bent on releasing. A piano groove that never leaves first gear is met with big, booming drums as Higgins howls “I’m just another girl who wants to know just where you think it’s written down, this way that we should go.” There’s even a bit towards the end that sounds like Radiohead’s There There. Which is always nice.

Rounding off the EP, and possibly the release’s highlight, is a live cover of Skyhooks’ You Just Like Me ‘Cause I’m Good In Bed, recorded for Triple J. Sure to both scare Higgins’ newfound MOR adult contemporary fans who in turn were originally intimidated by the band, as well as introduce a whole lot of younger J-philes to the band who wrote Jukebox In Siberia (Coincidentally, Good In Bed was the first song ever played on the then-Sydney only Double J FM, now Triple J. It all comes full circle, eh?)fakeplasticme

Bruce William Woodley (born 25 July 1942), is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician. He was a founding member of the successful pop-folk group The Seekers, and co-composer of the anthemic song "I Am Australian". Woodley attended Melbourne Boys' High School with fellow Seekers, Athol Guy and Keith Potger.

In 1974 Bruce contributed to an Australian-themed album put out by Viscount cigarettes, called The Roaring Days Vol. 1 (after a Henry Lawson poem). There were an equal number of poems on the album with every second track on the album being a song performed buy Bruce with Linda George contributing additional vocals to "Black Velvet Band"and "The Bush Girl".A second volume never eventuated. The album featured Bruce performing the traditional folk song "Eumerella Shore" and some of his own compositions, including "The Bush Girl". Narrators on the album were John Bhore, Roley Barlee and Ken Sparkes and the Musicians were Charles Gauld/Guitar, Bob Arrowsmith/Bass, Mike Rudd/Harmonica, Bruce Woodley/Guitar and Banjo, Vernon Hill/Flute.

Flaming Hands were an early 80s soul-inspired New Wave pop band from Sydney, Australia. That recorded some amazing songs. Unfortunately, their output never translated to much more than a cult following, and today there is very little information available on the band.

Flaming Hands' principal members were singer Julie Mostyn and songwriter/guitarist Jeff Sullivan, who together created something truly special. Sullivan delivered memorable, hook-filled songs that Mostyn made sparkle with her soaring, soulful vocals. Band members Circa 1981 Vocals - Julie Mostyn, Guitar - Jeff Sullivan, Bass - Grant Connor, Drums - Alan Brown, Keyboards - Peter Bull, Saxaphone - Sluggo

The band released their first single - I Belong to Nobody / The Stranger - on Phantom Records in 1980. They followed it up with four more singles - Wake Up Screaming / Sweet Revenge, It's Just That I Miss You / Go Or Stay, Cast My Love / Kismet and The Edge / Sacrifice. These singles were marked by an earthier sound than what Flaming Hands would be producing by the time they released their first and only full-length album in 1984. The self-titled LP, which featured Andrew Fariss and Kirk Pengilly from INXS, is enjoyable but relies a bit too heavily on synths. You can check it out on the Ausrock blog.

Unfortunately, the LP failed to get them the recognition they deserved, and Flaming Hands called it quits shortly after its release.

Typical of pop acts in the mid-sixties, Ray Brown and The Whispers resulted from a former instrumental group (the Nocturnes) finding themselves a singer in order to bring themselves in line with the Group Quake led by the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Together Ray and The Whispers became one of Australia's most popular pop acts of the day.

On paper Ray Brown and The Whispers were a repetition of the formula which had taken Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs to success. They replaced the Aztecs as resident group at Sydney's premier teenage venue Surf City, when Billy Thorpe and his group were enjoying national hits and touring interstate. Ray and the Whispers shared management with Billy and the Aztecs. Both acts tended to source their songs from a similar slightly-obscure fund of American soul. Both singers had distinctive voices. But there the similarity ended. While the Aztecs' erratic performance on record was carried by their popularity and Billy's personality, Ray Brown and the Whispers' recordings were far more consistent but when it counted Ray didn't have Billy's resiliance to see him through.

Ray Brown and the Whispers burst onto the charts in May 1965 with '20 Miles', originally recorded by Chubby Checker without charting in Australia. The Whispers' treatment of the song was quite different, and in keeping with the times. It was a No.1 hit at home in Sydney. The next two singles released where Sydney No.1s as well - 'Pride' (YouTube) and 'Fool Fool Fool' - and top ten nationally, as were 'In The Midnight Hour' and 'Tennessee Waltz'.

1966 was set up to be another big year for Ray. He decided to take control of his career, and fought a management contract which he'd signed when he was under 21. It cost him his career momentum, and the original Whispers. He was forced to form the New Whispers, lost time, focus, and some of his initial appeal to fans. But he had control.

Ray ended up in America, having scored a contract with Capital Records. Nothing that had happened in Australia mattered now. Ray was put in a studio with a producer, session musicians, 30- piece orchestra and told what to sing. He was totally intimidated by the situation and in no position to argue. $30,000 was spent on 'Just Ray Brown', a solo album which didn't even chart in Australia.

His two year experience in America bought back a very different Ray Brown. In 1970, now sporting shoulder length hair, he formed group Moonstone, attempting to fuse country music, rock and eastern influences. The instrumentation included pedal steel guitar and sitar. Moonstone recorded one album. After another year in America, Ray returned to form One Ton Gypsy, an ambitious eight piece jazz-rock featuring Ray and two other vocalists. A live fixture for two years, One Ton Gypsy were never released on record.

Ray released a solo single, 'Steel Guitar', in November 1973, continued to perform solo, and travelled the outback absorbing aboriginal culture. With a new Whispers he was playing rock and roll revival shows when he died suddenly in August 1996, of a heart

The Australian Dream was created after Peter Bartels, chairman of the 1996 Prime Minister's Olympic Dinner Committee expressed his thoughts (Oh what a well of creativity Peter) and briefed artistic director Ted Dunn (weren't you lucky Peter) with a simple statement. Seeing we have the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra could we reflect on the Barcelona Olympic Games then bridge to the up coming Atlanta Olympic Games, and finally to Australia including the announcement of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Well that is what we have ended up with here our little salute to all three Olympics. It's the kind of thing your mum and dad would have bought when you were a teenager listening to Thorpie or Black Sabbath but this is 1996 you're the Mums and Dad's and in some cases the Granparents so did you buy it ? My one beef with this CD is that there is no real track listing order and there are more songs than are named on the CD so I did my best with what I had you may be able to do better.

First meeting in the band Wild Science, guitarist Craig Pilkington, and singer Anna Burley left the band as it moved towards a hard rock sound. They teamed up as the Killjoys where their pop-folk tendencies found a suitable outlet. Releasing their first EP in 1989, Audrey (which produced the single "Fall Around Me"), the Killjoys then contributed a cover of the Seekers' "Another You" to the various artists tribute album, Used and Recovered (1990).

Their debut album, Ruby, won the 1990 Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) Award for Best Independent Release and the band signed a new deal with MXL. Craigie-Smith was replaced by Daniel Palamara who was in turn replaced by Michael Hohnen before the band released a new EP, Spin, in November 1991. The Killjoys then traveled to the U.K. to record their second album, A Million Suns, with producer Craig Leon (Ramones, Pogues, Bangles), which was released in March 1993. It spawned the singles "Beauty + Danger" (February 1993) and "I Lied" (June 1993).

Dave Foley replaced Will Larsen on drums in 1993 before the band released the EP "Love and Uncertainty" in May 1994. Carolyn Schwerkolt left the band in 1995, Dave Nelson replaced Michael Hohnen, and Gary Aspinall (guitar, vocals) joined the group. The Killjoys contributed a cover of Cold Chisel's "Flame Trees" to the various artists' compilation Earth Music in June 1994, and the CD single "Come Around" followed in October 1995. Another CD single, "Stupid Waste," was released in March 1996, followed by their next single, "Save Me," in November 1997. Another album, Sun Bright Deep, appeared in March 1998 and contained the singles "Save Me" (re-released) and "The Better It Gets" (September 1998).

When Tony Worsley bust into the Australian recording industry in the early 60’s his success was instantaneous. In 1964, he joined forces with the established combo “The Blue Jays” and this proved to be a winning combination. "Luv Your Life" is the third single by Australian rock band Silverchair from their fourth album Diorama, which was released in 2002. The song was released as a single and a video was made in which the band was portrayed as animated characters. This is mostly because Daniel Johns was incapacitated by his reactive arthritis, and the band needed to release another song to prevent commercial momentum for the album to come to a complete halt.

When watching the video, one can see that Chris and Ben's animated characters seem to be more fluid and realistic than Daniel's. This may be due to Chris and Ben doing some sort of motion capture for the making of the video. Chris stated that this song is his favourite off the album. "Luv Your Life" was dedicated by Johns to "all my ladies", and was written on piano and featured an orchestral arrangement by Van Dyke Parks. The single peaked at number 20 on the Australian Recording Industry Association Singles Chart.

I thought that I had posted this before but it seems not as I have had no real time to rip anything lately due to MIR commitments to keep the ball rolling I will endeavour to post some of my older post from Midoztouch. I enjoyed doing this compilation as Phil Jones & The Unknown Blues was one of the first band that I got to see live so that always left an impression on me. I remember being in awe at the time as my only connection with music had been the pop music being played on the radio. Well I hope you enjoy this selection which includes a couple of solo tunes by Phil.

Phil and the boys have actually reformed and have been playing to enthusiastic response so if you get a chance go and see them. David Rowlands the Unknown Blues drummer tells us that he is in the process of recording which may result in a solo release something to look forward to and I'm sure David will keep us up to date.

Had a request from Quah, Seng-Sun for some Zoot this a complation put together by old mate micko over on the Midoztouch forum and contains just about everything a Zoot fan could want 26 tracks in fact.

Zoot are a pop/rock band formed in Adelaide, South Australia in 1965 as Down the Line.They changed their name to Zoot in 1967 and by 1968 had relocated to Melbourne. They had a top five hit on the Go-Set national singles chart with a heavy rock cover of The Beatles' ballad "Eleanor Rigby" released in 1970 but they disbanded in May 1971.

Mainstay bass guitarist, Beeb Birtles, was later a founder of Little River Band in 1975 and guitarist singer-songwriter, Rick Springfield, who moved to the United States in 1972, achieved international fame as a solo artist, songwriter and actor.

Zoot will reunite for the Rick Springfield and Friends cruise in November 2011.

Waikiki were a rock group from Sydney, Australia, consisting of sister and brother Juanita Stein (bass/vocals) and Joel Stein (guitar/vocals), and Glenn Moule (drums) and Jimmy (or Jimmeh) Brandon (guitar). A new bass player Brendan Picchio joined the band in early 2003, replacing Brandon, with Juanita Stein moving from bass to rhythm guitar. In August 2003, Joel Stein explained the impact Picchio had made on the group. He told Radio Adelaide's Hermione Gilchrist that the new bassist was "the missing piece to the puzzle", adding, "he's what we've been looking for since we started."

In early 2004 the group disbanded, moved to London and re-formed as Howling Bells.

Waikiki released one album, I'm Already Home, in 2002. Their single, "Here Comes September", placed 36th on the 2002 Triple J Hottest 100 poll. They released three further singles and a five-track EP.

Bluebottle Kiss is a guitar-based, indie rock band from Sydney, Australia. Formed in the mid '90s, Bluebottle Kiss took their influences from the late '80s American indie scene, which included artists such as Sonic Youth and the Afghan Whigs, singer-songwriters of the '70s, such as Neil Young and Van Morrison, as well as the very creative Australian independent scene of the same period with artists such as The Church and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The band quickly signed to Murmur, an imprint of Sony Records. Initially, Bluebottle Kiss found only limited commercial success due to a challenging sound that ranged dissonant and rustic sounds to folk tinged, melancholy pop.

Alongside The Easybeats and The Masters Apprentices, The Twilights are widely considered to be one of the most significant Australian rock groups of the 1960s. Highly popular bands with teenage audiences, they were renowned for their musical excellence and live prowess, as well as their on-stage humour, and they were held in high respect by fellow musicians. The group is also notable as one of the few major Australian rock bands of the period to retain the same personnel for virtually all of its career. Like most of their contemporaries, they began as a cover band, playing accomplished renditions of hits by popular overseas bands of the era such as The Beatles, The Who and The Small Faces, and their early hits in Australia were all cover versions. The Twilights were noted for being on top of current musical trends, and their early repertoire was regularly updated with the latest British and American rock hits, which were regularly sent to them on record and tape by family and friends in the UK. Later in their career guitarist Terry Britten began to write original material but the group did not last long enough for this to have a significant impact on their career.
This post is their first LP one of the strongest by an Australian band at that time 1966 and although made up completely of covers bar the excellent Brideoak/Shorrock composition "It's Dark" is still an excellent debut with the Twilights giving each song their own treatment and making it their own. In this post you get the CD version I do have the vinyl but when I purchased it some years ago there was no cover if anyone has the original artwork I'd love to have it, if only I could have afforded the album at the time but with my allowance I could only buy singles.

The ultra-obscure Earth label released only two known recordings, both by The Thin Men, a long-lived vocal group that formed in Melbourne in 1962. The group performed through the Sixties and recorded five singles for HMV between 1963 and 1967. They briefly re-emerged in the 1970s with the LP The Thin Men On Earth and the single "Leah" / "All The Things You Are", both of which came out during 1974. Nothing else is known about the label or the group, and the Thin Men recordings are its only known releases.

Well it seems that the source of information as Ozzie Music man has pointed out is wrong there is a least one other single on the Earth label by Francis Butler's 69er's, called "Flash" b/w "Back Seat Drivin'" (ESP 008).

Paul Maurice Kelly (born 13 January 1955) is an Australian rock music singer-songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player. He has performed solo, and has led numerous groups, including the Dots, the Coloured Girls, and the Messengers. He has worked with other artists and groups, including associated projects Professor Ratbaggy and Stardust Five. Kelly's music style has ranged from bluegrass to studio-oriented dub reggae, but his core output straddles folk, rock, and country. His lyrics capture the vastness of the culture and landscape of Australia by chronicling life about him for over 30 years. David Fricke from Rolling Stone calls Kelly "one of the finest songwriters I have ever heard, Australian or otherwise."[1] Kelly has said, "Song writing is mysterious to me. I still feel like a total beginner. I don’t feel like I have got it nailed yet".

After growing up in Adelaide, Kelly travelled around Australia before settling in Melbourne in 1976. He became involved in the pub rock scene and drug culture, and recorded two albums with Paul Kelly and the Dots. Kelly moved to Sydney by 1985, where he formed Paul Kelly and the Coloured Girls. The band was renamed Paul Kelly and the Messengers, initially only for international releases, to avoid possible racist interpretations. At the end of the 1980s, Kelly returned to Melbourne, and in 1991 he disbanded the Messengers. Kelly has been married and divorced twice; he has three children and resides in St. Kilda, a suburb of Melbourne, with his girlfriend, Sian Prior. Dan Kelly, his nephew, is a singer and guitarist in his own right. Dan performed with Kelly on Ways and Means and Stolen Apples. Both were members of Stardust Five, which released a self-titled album in 2006.

Kelly's Top 40 singles include "Billy Baxter", "Before Too Long", "Darling It Hurts", "To Her Door" (his highest-charting local hit in 1987), "Dumb Things" (appeared on United States charts in 1988), and "Roll on Summer". Top-20 albums include Gossip, Under the Sun, Comedy, Songs from the South (1997 compilation, his best-charting album), ...Nothing but a Dream, and Stolen Apples. Kelly has won eight Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Music Awards, including his induction into their Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2001 the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) listed the Top 30 Australian songs of all time, including Kelly's "To Her Door", and "Treaty", written by Kelly and members of Yothu Yindi. Aside from "Treaty", Kelly has written or co-written several songs on Indigenous Australian social issues and historical events. He has provided songs for many other artists, tailoring them to their particular vocal range. The album Women at the Well from 2002 had 14 female artists record his songs in tribute.

Formed in Sydney, Australia, in 1989, Club Hoy was a folk duo, comprising of Penny Flanagan and Julia Richardson. Flanagan and Richardson began performing together at the age of 19, and after a year of writing and performing, released their first single, "On and On," in 1990. Late that year, additional musicians Bernie Hayes (bass) and Vincent Sheehan (drums) joined the band.

In early 1991, their second single, the double A-side "Da Da Da Da/Green and Blue" was released. For this single, Club Hoy enlisted the help of former Go-Between Grant McLennan, who performed on and produced a couple of tracks with Club Hoy; they later returned the favor on one of McLennan's albums. By this time, there was a significant amount of critical acclaim for the band and they were developing a dedicated fan base, although commercial success was proving elusive.

The first taste of their debut album, Thursday's Fortune, was in the form of a single from that album ("House on Fire"). It generated a great deal of interest in the upcoming release, which finally saw the light of day two months after the release of "House on Fire," in September 1991. Greeted with critical praise, Thursday's Fortune saw Club Hoy receive minor commercial success. This was thanks in no small part to extensive touring with the likes of Things of Stone and Wood, Margaret Urlich, the Falling Joys, the Clouds, and the Hummingbirds. One of the strengths of Club Hoy's music lay in their well-crafted songwriting, which produced some of the best folk-pop music of the early-'90s. Richardson and Flanagan's vocal harmonies were another highlight.

Two more singles were released from Thursday's Fortune ("Walk Away" and "Not Like That") in 1992. These were followed by their final recording, the Trumpets EP, which was promoted with the track "You Promised, You Said." This choice as lead single from the EP caused tensions within the group to be exacerbated, and, in 1993, Club Hoy disbanded. Penny Flanagan went on to pursue a successful solo career, while Julia Richardson and Bernie Hayes formed a new group, the Troublemakers.

Frente! are an Australian alternative rock group, formed in 1991. The original lineup featured singer Angie Hart, founder and guitarist Simon Austin, bassist Tim O'Connor (later replaced by Bill McDonald), and drummer Mark Picton (later replaced by Alastair Barden). In 1993 they released the successful singles "Ordinary Angels" and "Accidently Kelly Street".

Frente! burst onto the Australian music charts with the singles "Ordinary Angels" (from the Clunk EP, #3, gold) and "Accidently Kelly Street" (#4, platinum) in 1992. Notable as much for the bizarre film clips ("Accidently Kelly Street" consisted of the band with oversized novelty props of household items, and the title of the song was purposely written with an initial lowercase) as their light-hearted pop lyrics, Frente!'s debut album, Marvin the Album (#5) was also a success, going platinum in Australia. Another single was released from the album in early 1993, "No Time" (#50), which did not fare as well.

"Ordinary Angels" finished the year as the 20th best selling single of 1992 on the ARIA charts, with "Accidently Kelly Street" finishing 29th.

The band promoted overseas in 1994 with their biggest success being an acoustic cover version of New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" which reached #76 in the UK (following releases of earlier tracks "Ordinary Angels" which did not chart and "Accidently Kelly Street" which reached #84). "Bizarre Love Triangle" was released in Australia on a re-issued version of the "Lonely" EP in 1994 (#7, with the first issue charting at #88). The cover was also a hit in the United States, charting at #10 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and #49 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band's only other chart placement in the US was a re-release of the "Labour of Love" single, which managed #9 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

They appeared on the 1994 soundtrack for the American TV show: Melrose Place with the song "Ordinary Angels".

In between the first and second Frente! albums, Angie Hart lent her vocal to an Australian single by Pop! titled "Tingly" (#92), released in late 1995.

Frente! also has a track on the compilation album Saturday Morning, a cover version of "Open Up Your Heart (and Let the Sunshine In)". The album was released on 5 December 1995.

Frente! released a second album, Shape, in 1996. The first single "Sit On My Hands" peaked at #66 in Australia, and the second, "What's Come Over Me" did not enter the top 100 although it did reach #83 in the UK. The album peaked at #35. Frente! broke up shortly after its release in 1996.

Had a request for this one so here it is.

Tex, Don and Charlie is an Australian super group formed by Tex Perkins from The Cruel Sea, Beasts of Bourbon and others, Don Walker from Cold Chisel and widely respected guitarist Charlie Owen. Their first album Sad But True was released in 1993 with the second released in 2005.

The band was founded in 1992 as Tex Perkins relates: "I saw Charlie and thought 'Jesus Christ'. He was easily the best rock guitar player I had seen. He was really dexterous, but gutsy. Not flashy. I think it had a lot of jazz in him as well. I made a mental note that I'd like to work with Charlie and about I year later I heard he was playing with Don Walker in Catfish. Then somebody suggested I do something with Don Walker and I said 'Sure, as long as Charlie Owen is there'.
Don and Charlie had worked together a little, but as a group they barely knew each other when they cut Sad But True in 1993. Their potent, distinctively Australian country-blues cocktail matured on stage, as faithfully reflected in their heady live album of 1995, Monday Morning Coming Down.

Over the next 10 years they all went separate ways, but remained in contact.

In March 2005 Tex, Don and Charlie had been talking about a second album for four years; swapping songs in the mail for three; nailing them together over various stolen rehearsal sessions for nearly two. All is Forgiven was released in August 2005 and a successful tour followed. In October 2010, Sad But True (1993) was listed in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums.

Within two years of breakup of the Go-Betweens both Lindy Morrison and Amanda Brown had become mothers, stayed in contact and then followed up their goal of forming a band in which they wrote the songs.

The resulting band was Cleopatra Wong. The band had a high-tech approach. Amanda was the main songwriter and apart from free jams of her earlier band Climbing Frame and a partial credit on Don't call me gone, this was her first foray into the world of songwriting. Cleopatra Wong played around Sydney and even toured South East Asia, released 2 Eps, Egg in 1992 and Cleopatra's Lament in 1993. Cleopatra Wong came to a surprise end in 1993 when Lindy left on the eve of a repackaging deal of the 2 Ep's for US release, a deal which then didn't go through.

Tiddas are a three piece all-girl folk band from Victoria, Australia originally the three women, Amy Saunders (a Gunditjmara woman from Portland), Lou Bennett (a Yorta Yorta woman from Echuca) and Sally Dastey (from West Heidelberg) combined their vocal talents as backing singers for Aboriginal band Djaambi, led by Saunder's brother Richard Frankland in 1990. The group were invited to perform at a musical celebration for women's artistic achievement, 'Hot Jam Cooking', in Richmond, Victoria. Their performance was well received and inspired Ruby Hunter, Archie Roach's partner, to dub the trio Tiddas, which is Koori English for the word sisters.

After performing together for over a year the band came to the attention of Paul Petran, host of ABC National Radio show 'Music Deli', who assisted Tiddas to record their debut EP, Inside My Kitchen in 1991. Inside My Kitchen was released in October, 1992 and received two nominations, for 'Best New Talent' and 'Best Indigenous Talent', at the 1993 Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) Awards.

Tiddas quickly became live favourites, touring with Sweet Honey in the Rock and Midnight Oil, adding didgeridoo player Tim "Froggie" Holtze for their first album Sing About Life. The album peaked at #36 on the ARIA charts, achieved gold record sales in Australia (35,000 copies sold), was nominated 'Breakthrough Artist - Album', and won 'Best Indigenous Record' at the 1994 ARIA awards. The album National and international tours followed, including several WOMAD concerts. Sing About Life was released in the United States in September 1995, spurring tours of North America and Europe.

The group felt so strongly about the direction and voice they had found in the interim they bluntly called the second album 'Tiddas', which was produced by Joe Camilleri. The album was released in Australia in August 1996. Tiddas reached #26 on the ARIA charts and was nominated for 'Best Indigenous Release' at the 1996 ARIA awards. The first single, "Ignorance is Bliss", was reputedly inspired by an argument with Bob Geldof while touring in 1993. Backing musicians on the album included the Black Sorrows' Jen Anderson on violin, Joe Camilleri on sax (on "Waving Goodbye"), Peter Luscombe on drums, Steven Hadley on bass, and Weddings, Parties, Anything's Mark "Squeezebox Wally" Wallace on piano accordion. A second single "Walk Alone" was released in 1997.

The third album, 'Lethal By The Kilo', was recorded in Melbourne's ABC studios in late 1998. The album received almost no promotion from the record company, which led to the band almost breaking up. Tiddas however went on to record a fourth album, pointedly named Show Us Ya Tiddas, which was recorded live at the Continental Café on 11 September 1999, in front of an invited audience. In May 2000 Tiddas did break up, spending months on a national tour to say farewell to all their fans. In 2000 Tiddas were awarded a Deadly Award for 'Outstanding Contribution to Aboriginal Music'

Peter John Doyle (28 July 1949 – 13 October 2001) was an Australian pop singer who had success with a number of Top 40 hits in Australia in the 1960s, then success internationally as a member of the New Seekers in the early 1970s, before resuming a solo career in 1973.

He started his career at the age of 9 appearing on a children's television talent show called Swallow's Juniors and appeared as a regular on that show for the next five years. At the age 10 he made his first recording on a 78rpm acetate, "Lucky Devil"/"If Irish Eyes Were Shining". He was performing in Sunday afternoon pop shows at Melbourne's Festival Hall at the age of 14 and at 16 he was signed to a record contract with Ivan Dayman's Sunshine label (whose roster included top singers such as Normie Rowe and Tony Worsley). This led to regular appearances on Melbourne’s teen TV show, "The GO Show".

From 1965 to 1967 he released ten 45 records in Australia, of which seven made the Top 40, the most successful of which were a cover of Conway Twitty's Speechless (The Pick Up), and a rousing version of Solomon Burke's Stupidity. He was backed by Melbourne band The Phantoms on all these recordings. He then recorded two singles with the band Grandmas Tonic as lead vocalist. His last two singles, once again under his own name, were for the Astor label although he was still backed on them by Grandma's Tonic,(ex-members of Tony Worsley's backing band 'The Fabulous Blue Jays').

May 1968 saw him join the vocal trio 'The Virgil Brothers', Australia's answer to The Walker Brothers. The Virgil Brothers released two singles in Australia in 1968, "The Temptations 'Bout to Get Me" (a Top 5 hit) and "Here I Am". They then relocated to the UK where they recorded their third single, When You Walk Away with producer David McKay. He then quit the trio which broke up soon after.

In 1970, not long after the Virgil Bros had dissolved, he joined the second lineup of The New Seekers. Recommended by melbourne radio DJ Stan Rolfe. This line-up was their most successful and enduring and during his time with them they had a string of international hits, such as Melanie Safka's "What Have They Done To My Song Ma", Delaney & Bonnie's "Never Ending Song of Love" and "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing".

In 1972 The New Seekers came second representing the UK, in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Beg, Steal or Borrow", on which he co-vocalled with Lyn Paul. As well as sharing vocals in The New Seekers he was a talented songwriter and contributed many songs to their albums which included ballads such as "I Can Say You're Beautiful" and "Lay Me Down" and more uptempo numbers like "Boom Town" and "Cincinnati".

He quit The New Seekers, apparently disillusioned with lack of monetary rewards, in 1973 and resumed his solo career, as a singer-songwriter. He continued working in the UK until 1981, during which period he issued five solo singles, including a cover of The Easybeats "Friday On My Mind", and one album, Skin Deep. During this time in the UK he also recorded advertising jingles for Ribena and Sugar Puffs, provided the vocal for a children's single, "Jungle Ted and the Laceybuttonpoppers" and did backing vocals on Lyn Paul's solo single, "It Oughta Sell A Million". It did not. In 1975 he was offered and declined the job as Little River Band's lead vocalist.

Glen Wheatley asked Peter to join the Little River Band but at this stage, Peter wanted to make his way as a solo performer. By 1976, with the backing of David Mackay, Peter had secured a recording with RCA and his first single, released on 13 August 1976 was an incredible version of the Easybeats' Friday on My Mind. Inexplicably this failed to chart, as did his follow up single, Skin Deep. His album, also entitled Skin Deep , released in 1977, included a variety of musical styles and six songs penned by Peter, but even this failed to give him the solo success he so greatly deserved. It was around this time that Peter met the love of his life, Jane Garner, who later became his wife.

He returned to Australia in 1981 to work with a band called Standing Room Only. In 1982, ex-Wings drummer, Steve Holly invited him to join the group Regis in the US, where he worked for the next five years.

Returning to Australia in 1987, he regularly performed on the club circuit. In 1991 to 1992 he joined the Ram Band in Melbourne on vocals, played bass and keyboards, Colin Cook vocals, guitar and saxophone, Tony Faehse guitar and vocal, Marty Stone guitar, John van Boxtel vocals and drums. This was curtailed when he suffered ill-health in the 1990s. He died in Castlemaine, Victoria, of throat cancer, on 13 October 2001. He is buried at Muckleford Cemetery.

'Can't Wait for September' was released in November 1970 on Du Monde Records (SDM-325) and entered the Go-Set Top 60 at #51 on Boxing Day 1970, and peaked at #24 before sliding back down the charts.

There is quite a little story about how and who actually recorded this single whether it was actually Erl's Court a popular Woolongong band of which Erl Dalby was a member prior to this singles release or Pyramid the band that Dalby hooked up with after Erl's Court's demise .

Jen Anderson - Seek

Born into a musical family, Jen Anderson’s father Professor Gordon Anderson was a professional jazz musician before becoming Australia’s foremost expert in medieval music. She and her younger brother Jon were encouraged to learn an instrument from an early age, with Jen choosing the violin with Jon taking up trumpet and later guitar. The family moved to from Adelaide to Armidale in 1973 following her father’s appointment as lecturer in Medieval and Renaissance music at UNE’s new Department of Music. Both she and Jon initially attended Armidale High School before moving to the newly established Duval High School in 1974.

During her late teens and early twenties Anderson became interested in playing more contemporary music and realising that violin had a limited place in rock music took up the bass guitar. By the mid-1980s she was a member of Mixt Company, a six-piece band initially based out in the mid-north coast area of NSW (around Macksville and Kempsey). It later became Giant Steps and established a new base out of the Lismore/Byron Bay area of North Coast NSW. After a number of line-up changes the group eventually disbanded around 1988/89. In addition to Anderson, other members have included: Barry Ferrier (guitar), Lisa Spence (vocals), Tim Shanasy (keyboards), Gordon Heazlewood (drums), Dick Rummery (keyboards/guitar).

Between 1989 and 1992 Anderson was associated with Kings of the World (1989), Scarecrow (1991) and The Stab (1992). The two later bands included musicians who have also played with her in Weddings Parties Anything – Stephen O’Prey (Scarecrow) and Dave Steel (The Stab). Sometime around in 1992, while playing in a duo on one of the floors of the Sydney Trade Union Club, Anderson’s talent as a violinist was noticed by Joe Camilleri. The Black Sorrows frontman (formerly with Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons) was in the process of expanding his band’s line-up and invited her to join the group. She soon afterwards appeared on the band’s hit LP Harley and Rose and toured throughout Australia and overseas, cementing her reputation as one of Australia’s leading contemporary violinists.

While still with the Black Sorrows Anderson released a solo EP Seek (1992) which includes some members of The Black Sorrows, and Gordon Heazlewood (ex-Mixt Company and Giant Steps). Seek contains a variety of styles and moods through which Anderson experiments with instrumentation and various pop-writing styles. During this period she also toured briefly with her own group (the Jen Anderson Band), comprising ex-Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons guitarist/vocalist Tony Faehse, along with Tim Henwood, (guitar, vocals), Pat Quinn (bass, vocals) and Terry Bartholmew (drums). The Black Sorrows released Better Times in 1992 and continued touring, while also releasing a number of singles up until late 1993 when Camilleri disbanded the group.

Having recorded several tracks for Weddings, Parties, Anything on the band’s albums Different Loves (1992), including a feature appearance on the band’s most successful single, “Father’s Day” and King Tide (1993), Anderson was an obvious choice as permanent violinist, and subsequently joined in 1994. Her first album release as an official member was Donkey Serenade (1995). Anderson remained with the band until it disbanded in 1998, but has also been involved in several reunions – 2005, 2006 (a one-off) and 2008. Although Weddings Parties Anything had limited commercial success its live shows were renowned for being energetic, and the band toured extensively throughout Australia.

Weddings Parties Anything†

While still a member of Weddings Parties Anything Anderson was also carving out a successful career as a soundtrack composer and session musician. One of her early solo projects involved writing and recording the soundtrack to the German silent movie Pandora’s Box (starring Louise Brooks). Anderson performed the soundtrack live during its 1993 art house run. That same year she also produced Ruby Hunter’s debut album Thoughts Within, while also contributing violin and viola fills to a couple of the tracks.

Since 1993 Anderson has contributed to more than 40 recordings as a guest musicians, including works by Hunters and Collectors, The Revelators (with Joe Camilleri), Billy Baxter, Deborah Conway, Nick Cave, Renee Geyer, Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes, Sherry Rich and the Grievous Angels, along with three tracks from the 1998 compilation Didj’un : Singer Songwriters from the Kimberley. She also features on the Nick Cave/Kylie Minogue hit single, “Where the Wild Roses Grow“, taken from the album Murder Ballads (1996), and produced and played violin on Tim Rogers’ and The Twin Set’s 1999 Aria award-winning release What Rhymes with Cars and Girls (Rogers is perhaps best known as the frontman for You Am I). In addition to her recording career Anderson continues to tour and perform with other musicians and bands, including, for example, Barb Walters and the Men of Constant Sorrow (2002).

The Larrikins†

Anderson’s own releases a collaboration with Tim Shanasy (as Sonic Lifeform). They released Silent Catalyst in 1999. Her critically acclaimed score for Pandora’s Box led to a commission from ScreenSound Australia to write the music to accompany a reconstructed version of the original 1919 silent film The Sentimental Bloke for the 1995 Melbourne International Film Festival. She and fellow Weddings Parties Anything compatriots Mick Thomas and Mark Wallace helped record the soundtrack (released in 2004) and played live during the films initial Australian tour. Following the discovery of new footage a new reconstruction of the film premiered in 2004, Anderson was again asked to perform the score live (with some additional new music). She subsequently formed The Larrikins, comprising Anderson (strings/mandolin/vocals), Dave Evans (keyboards/piano accordion/vocals) and Dave Warner (guitar/mandolin/vocals). In addition to a 2004 Australian national tour the trio has toured extensively overseas, including playing at such film festivals as: London and Pordenone (2005); Telluride, Washington DC, Montreal and Tokyo (2006); and Seattle, Seoul (2007).

Jen Anderson’s film and television credits include the ABC’s Simone de Beauvoir’s Babies, and ‘Wee Jimmy’ (from the Hybrid Life series) ; the Clara Law film Goddess of 1967 (2001) ; the short films Tale of the Paper Hearts (1998) and Helga: Adrift in Wonderland (2002) ; and the documentaries It’s Like That (2003), Einstein’s Wife : The Life of Mileva Einstein-Maric (2003), Hunt Angels (2006) and Vivian Bullwinkel (2007).

Australian Crawl - Semantics

Reckless (Don't Be So...)/The Night/White Limbo/Looking For Cool

Australian Crawl was founded in Melbourne, Australia by James Reyne (lead vocals/piano), his younger brother David Reyne (drums), Brad Robinson (rhythm guitar), Paul Williams (bass guitar) and Simon Binks (lead guitar) in 1978. David Reyne soon left and was replaced by Bill McDonough (drums, percussion), and the band was later joined by his younger brother Guy McDonough (vocals, rhythm guitar).

Semantics was a 1983 EP by iconic Australian surf rock band Australian Crawl. The album marked a change in the line up of the band as Bill McDonough (drums) was replaced first by Graham Bidstrup (ex-The Angels, The Party Boys with Crawl member James Reyne) to record the EP. The more permanent replacement, after the EP, was John Watson (Kevin Borich Express).
The EP contains their best known song and only number 1 single, "Reckless (Don't Be So)" (aka "She Don't Like That") which was written by lead singer Reyne. Listeners of Triple M voted "Reckless" the 39th best song of all time in 2007, it was the highest placed Australian Crawl song.
In the United States and Europe Semantics was released in 1984 by Geffen Records as an expanded version LP featuring the EP's four original tracks plus re-recorded versions of six earlier Australian Crawl songs. The original EP was also re-released as a CD-EP in 1996.
Australian Crawl performed "Reckless" as one of their three songs for the Oz for Africa concert (1985). This was the Australian leg of the global Live Aid show organised by Midge Ure and Bob Geldof. The "Oz for Africa" concert was broadcast on MTV, but only performances by Australian band INXS were placed on the 20th Anniversary DVD collection

Catherine Wheel were from Sydney, Australia, their lifespan was quite short, just two years, from 1989 to 1991. During this time they released 10 songs, all of them little pop gems.
Catherine Wheel were Andrea Croft, Grant Shanahan, Brett ‘Bert’ Thompson and ‘Biff’ Smith. Catherine Wheel came into being from the ashes of another Sydney band The Honeys after they disbanded. The three ex-Honeys Andrea, Grant and Bert added Biff Smith and Catherine Wheel was born . Their first single included the songs Almost Blind, Sunny Sunday and Look At Her. It was released on the That’s Bizarre label.

Blue Avenue / Last Explanation was their second 7″, again released on the That’s Bizarre label in 1990, and has the band’s best two tracks. Their last release was the “Self-Portraits” 5 track CD-EP on their usual label, That’s Bizarre. The Honeys reformed around 2007 and recorded a new album 16 years after breaking up.

The Huxton Creepers were an Australian rock band from Melbourne. They formed in 1984, three years after they left high school, and split in 1989. Their notable Australian hits were "My Cherie Amour", "I Will Persuade You" and their version of Manfred Mann's "Pretty Flamingo".

The lineup was Rob Craw (lead vocals and guitar), Paul Thomas (guitar and vocals), Matthew Eddy (bass) and Archie Law (drums). All four members attended Scotch College, Melbourne, completing their HSC year in 1981.

Their first released recording was the track "King Of The Road" (an original, not the Roger Miller song) on the Au Go Go Records Melbourne compilation Asleep At The Wheel in 1984. This and their two tracks on the Triple J compilation Cooking With George brought them to the attention of Big Time Records, their label throughout their career. Their first album was 12 Days To Paris in 1986 and their second was So This Is Paris in 1988 (titled Keep To The Beat on the Canadian release).

Max Merritt (born Maxwell James Merritt in Christchurch, New Zealand on 30 April 1941) is a New Zealand-born singer-songwriter and guitarist who is renowned as an interpreter of soul music and R&B. As leader of Max Merritt & The Meteors his best known hits are "Slippin' Away", which reached #2 on the 1976 Australian singles charts, and "Hey, Western Union Man" which reached #13. Merritt rose to prominence in New Zealand from 1958 and relocated to Sydney Australia in December 1964. Merritt was acknowledged as one of the best local performers of the 1960s and 1970s and his influence did much to popularise soul music / R&B and rock in New Zealand and Australia.

Merritt is a venerable pioneer of rock in Australasia who produced crowd pleasing shows for over 50 years. He has engendered respect and affection over generations of performers which was evident at the 2007 Concert for Max to provide financial support after it was announced he had Goodpasture's syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease. The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) recognised Merritt's iconic status on 1 July 2008 when he was inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Cold Chisel are a rock band that originated in Adelaide, Australia. It is one of the most acclaimed Australian rock bands of all time, with a string of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s and huge sales that continue to this day, although its success and acclaim was almost completely restricted to Australia and New Zealand

Teenage Love is a compilation album by Australian pub rock band Cold Chisel, released in 1994. The album collected studio recordings, many just demos, that were not used on previous albums. Phil Small said, "There was always a surplus of 3 to 4 tracks with each album." The tracks were recorded between 1976 and 1983. "Hands Out of My Pocket", "Nothing But You" and "Yesterdays" were issued as singles.

Don Walker said of the album, "Most of the time they were recorded as demos, so it's just the band in the studio slamming down a new song. For a certain number of them, it's the only time we ever played the song."

"The Party's Over" was a live staple for the band but not included on earlier studio albums. "A Little Bit of Daylight" is an early version of the song recorded by Jimmy Barnes as "Daylight" on his solo album Bodyswerve. "Monica", a song written by Prestwich, is the only Cold Chisel song that Don Walker doesn't play on, as he claims he couldn't play with a "latin feel."

Allmusic describes "Teenage Love" as, "the weakest studio album in Cold Chisel's catalog." However, it continues, "Yes, it's Chisel's "B" material. But then, most bands would kill to have this kind of stuff as their "A" material."

The album reached the number 6 in the Australian charts.

Spy vs Spy, also known as v. Spy v. Spy, The Drug Grannies and The Spies, are an Australian ska/pub rock band from Sydney formed in 1981. They became known for tackling political issues through their music, including racism, homelessness and contemporary drug culture. They were named after a comic strip, "Spy vs. Spy" in the US Mad magazine.

The band's initial line-up was the trio of Craig Bloxom on bass guitar/lead vocals, Cliff Grigg on drums/percussion and Mike Weiley on lead guitar/vocals. Spy vs Spy's early music was ska-influenced indie rock, exemplified by their debut single "Do What You Say" on the independent Green label in April 1982. They released an EP Four Fresh Lemons in August. Their music became more straight forward hard rock for their pub audiences. The band broke up in early 1983 only to reform mid-year, by which time they were using the name v. Spy v. Spy to avoid legal problems with Mad magazine.

They were eventually signed to Midnight Oil's label Powderworks and managed by Oils manager, Gary Morris. Their first full-length album Harry's Reasons was released in March 1986 and produced by Leszek Karski. They switched labels to WEA and had their highest charting success in February 1987 with their single "Don't Tear It Down" on the Australian singles chart and the associated album A.O. Mod. TV. Vers. peaked at #12 on the Australian albums chart.

Spy vs Spy's follow-up album, Xenophobia (Why?) was released in March 1988 peaked at #15 in Australia. It was produced by Karski and Guy Gray and released by WEA in 14 countries. Their 1989 album Trash the Planet peaked at #22 on the ARIA Charts. None of their subsequent releases reached the Australian Top 40. The band split and reformed a number of times but still developed a strong following in Brazil.

About to have a dummy spit again it's been a while, but have become really annoyed at the lack of comments again as a have said before a lot of time and effort goes into running a blog and I don't just surf the Internet looking for things to post all the music is my own except the occasional request so I have to rip the music clean it up and scan the covers and upload it if it's an album it could take me up to 5-6 hours on the weekend surely after you've downloaded the music you could take the time to say thank you. In the past people would download the music and be on their way I don't want a few guilty conscience's to post a comment here I'd just like some comments in the post of whatever you're downloading. Failing that I'm considering going invitation only or you having to Email me for the link I know that would be a lot better than just saying thanks . What has brought this on is apathy in general a new internet radio station has started up Midoztouch Internet Radio while radio is not everyones cup of tea this radio station plays the Music you're downloading not that waffle that you hear on commercial radio I get on average 300 visitors a day here it would be nice to think that some of you would at least give it a listen you might actually like it.

Anne & Johnny Hawker are a Melbourne husband and wife duo. Orchestra leader and arranger Johnny Hawker worked on many Australian recordings. During 1968/69 Anne & Johnny had 5 hits together as well as 2 further solo hits by Anne. they released 10 singles, the biggest was the duos debut smash "Cinderalla Rockefella", which outsold the original by Esther & Abi Ofarim Australia wide. Their hit follow up's were: "Lovin' Season", "I Got You", "Dear World", & "Real True Lovin'". Anne also did particularly well with her own singles. "Boom-Bang-A-Bang", again matching the Top 10 placing of Lulu's original version & "Timothy" which followed it into the Top 20. Dear world was released in 1969 and made #30 in Melbourne.

Southern Sons was an Australian band, originally billed as The State were best known in Australia in the early 90's for their hits 'Heart In Danger' and 'Hold Me In Your Arms'. The four members of State Virgil Donati (Drums) Phil Buckle (Guitar) Geoff Cain (Bass) and Peter Bowman (Guitar) added Jack Jones (Guitar Vocal) in 1990.

Southern Sons was created as a direct result of songwriter Phil Buckle's collaboration on six of the twelve songs on John Farnham's 'Chain Reaction' album (1990). Phil's group The State was signed to Farnham manager Glenn Wheatley's Wheatley Brothers records, and had released one album. Hearing John's treatment of his songs, Phil Buckley wanted to replace himself as lead vocalist and recruited John Farnham sound-a-like singer/guitarist Jack Jones, who had auditioned for the band previously but was considered too young.

The new group changed its name to Southern Sons and made its public debut as support act for John's 'Chain Reaction Tour', Phil and Jack also having played on the album, doing double duty as members of John's backing band. 1990 saw the release of their debut album, 'Southern Sons' (which spawned three top ten hit singles) and a five-track EP, 'Train Tracks" containing four live tracks, released to coincide with Phil and Jack's return to Southern Sons duties after a European tour with Farnham.

Their second album in 1992, 'Nothing But the Truth', came with the departure of guitarist Peter Bowman. After two singles, including "You Were There' one of three Phil Buckle songs in the Australian Ballet production of 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Nothing But the Truth' was re-released, with different cover artwork featuring a new look Jack Jones, to include the single 'Silent Witness'. Southern Sons third and final album, 'Zone', was released in 1995, self-produced with former member Peter Bowman. Its lead single, 'Don't Tell Me', featured vocals from Men At Work's Colin Hay.

In the 1960's Issi appeared on Television programs like Bandstand, Kommotion, The GO! Show and Uptight.
In late 1969 Issi had his first hit song with "Incense" and moved into the 1970's as a regular presenter and performer on the "Happening 70s" TV Show. This continued for three years.

During the 1970s, Issi toured with the great stars of music, including: Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, The Everly brothers, The Platters, Ray Charles, The Supremes, Chuck Berry and The Drifters.

He also shared the Australian stage with John Farnham, Molly Meldrum, Lonnie lee, Johnny O'Keefe, The Deltones, Russell Morris, Brian Cadd, Doug Parkinson, Ronnie Burns, The Masters Apprentices and many more...!

From the mid-70s until the end of the 90's, Issi had his own Television Programs on the Nine Network in Melbourne, Sydney and the Ten Network in Brisbane. Issi is still active today touring with anyone of his tribute shows at the moment he can be seen performing around the country with his Legends of Las Vegas revue.

This single released by Issi in 1974 on the Image label has 2 songs that are poles apart the A side "Personality" is an old chestnut recorded by Lloyd Price but the B side Hitch Hiker really rocks out it was co written and produced by Peter Robinson guitarist for the Strangers the other co writer i'm presuming is Buddy England.

This a country album by Harry Young from late sixties early seventies band Harry Young and Sabbath who had a couple of hits with "San Bernadino" 1969 and "Wheat In the Fields" 1970.

This was recorded in 1995 and is a ripper of an album very listenable. It's one of those albums where every track grabs you every bit as good as anything put out by the likes of Lee Kernigan or Keith Urban.

Apparently Harry Young and Sabbath have played Three re-union concerts, With most of the original members plus support musicians at Morisset RSL 1991 and the Bonnells Bay Hotel 1991 and then with all the original members on Nov 22nd 2008 at the Dora Creek workers Club which is up Morissett way.

Hard rock and a bad attitude fuelled the bad boys from Australian band Kings of the Sun.

Flamboyant vocalist Jeffrey Hoad and his brother Clifford Hoad were playing with the Young Lions until guitarist Bob Spencer left to join the Angels in 1986. With the dissolution of the Young Lions, the Hoad brothers formed Kings of the Sun and signed to Mushroom Records. The new band's debut single, "Bottom of My Heart"/"Bad Love," would prove to be Kings of the Sun's biggest hit, eventually reaching the national Top 20.

They almost disbanded at the end of 1986 before RCA executive Simon Lowe signed the band after seeing them perform in their hometown of Sydney. The band toured the U.S. during 1987 before beginning work on their debut album with producer/engineer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones). Guitarist Ron Thiessen had left the band and Jeffrey Hoad's guitar work appeared on their self-titled debut, released in October 1988, before guitarist Glen Morris joined. The album produced the singles "Serpentine"/"Wild Cat" (July) and "Black Leather"/"Bad Love" (October). The band toured the U.S. supporting Joe Satriani, followed by Europe supporting Kiss, and returned to Australia at the end of 1988. Supporting the touring Guns N' Roses at the Sydney Entertainment Centre proved a disastrous move for Kings of the Sun, thanks in part to the efforts of lead singer Jeffrey Hoad, who dropped his pants in front of the audience and bad-mouthed Guns N' Roses publicly. This spat between Axl Rose and the band led to the Australian public turning their backs on the band. They continued touring overseas, however, and after Morris briefly left mid-1989 to join the Screaming Tribesmen, Kings of the Sun released their second album, Full Frontal Attack (August 1990). Two singles were released: "Drop the Gun"/"Haunt You Baby" and "I Get Lonely," before the band returned to the U.S. to support Lita Ford.

An Australian tour with the Screaming Jets followed in early 1991 before Morris and Ragg left the band in 1992. American bassist Brad Spurr joined the now three-piece Kings of the Sun for the band's third album, Resurrection (May 1993). It produced the singles "Trapped Inside Your Heart" (April) and "Road to Nowhere" (July) and they supported Jimmy Barnes on tour that same year. Jay Justin McCarthy was born on 4th May 1940 in Sydney. After he left school he took a job as a shoe salesman at the Reynolds Shoe Store in Castlereagh and began studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Rather than pursue a classical career he became a professional pop singer. In 1960 he signed a recording contract with EMI's subsidiary label HMV Records. His debut single was released in August but it failed to make the charts. His second single Why Don't You Try became his breakthrough record in July 1961, spending eight weeks in the charts and reaching the Sydney Top 40.

By this stage he was appearing regularly on both Bandstand and The Johnny O'Keefe Show. He released two relatively unsuccessful singles before he hit it big with Proud of You in April 1963. It made the number one spot right around the country and spent a total of seventeen weeks in the charts. It was also released in the US on the Veejay Records label. Two more singles were released that year but neither emulated his previous success. Jay was also a talented songwriter and in collaboration with Joe Halford, the Artist and Repertoire man for EMI Records, wrote a number of songs for other local artists like Bryan Davies and Patsy Ann Noble.

Jay was also responsible for discovering young singing sensation Little Pattie. He spotted her performing at a dance at the Bronte Surf Club and arranged an audition for her with HMV Records. Jay and Joe also co-wrote her debut double-hit single called He's My Blonde Headed Stompie Wompie Real Gone Surfer Boy and Stompin' At Maroubra. Jay continued recording and issuing singles on a number of labels until the mid-Eighties. During this period he spent some time in the UK where he recorded one single with top British composer, producer and conductor Norrie Paramour. He also represented Australia at the World Songwriting Festival in Rio de Janeiro and even started his own record label called Jamboree Records.

GANGgajang was formed in 1984 when Mark Callaghan, previously of The Riptides, and Buzz Bidstrup and Chris Bailey formerly of The Angels, were commissioned to write songs for the ABC TV program Sweet & Sour.

The songs became a debut album, the self titled "GANGgajang", with sales in excess of 120,000 with the hit singles Gimme Some Lovin, House of Cards, Giver of Life and the classic Sounds of Then (This is Australia)

With the addition of Geoffrey Stapleton on keyboards, guitar and artwork, and Robert James on lead guitar, GANGgajang became a live entity.

In 1987, tracks from the album were featured in the classic cult surf movie Mad Wax, introducing the band to a growing world wide audience and garnering the vote of The Professional Surfers Association of “World’s Best Band”, coupled with some showcase gigs in the U.S. and the release of their second album GANGagain.

In 1990 the bandmembers took time off to complete some personal projects, reforming to record the Lingo album and tour again in 1992.

The band toured Brazil for the first time in 1995, playing to over 60,000 rapturous fans in ten concerts in nine cities, followed by another 2 massive tours in the subsequent years.

In 1996 the Nine TV network adopted Sounds of Then (This is Australia) for its 1996 year promotion, sparking a revived interest in the band’s live dates around Australia.

In 2002 the band released its 4th album Oceans and Deserts and in 2006 the 4 hour double disc DVD collection The Complete GANGgajang.

Ray Brown and the Whispers first album released in 1964 has the hits "20 Miles" #1 in Sydney, and also fared well in Melbourne, reaching #26 and "Pride" #1 in Sydney and #7 in Melbourne. Some other great tunes on the album my favorites Devoted To You,Say It Again and Shakin' All Over every bit as good a rendition as Normie's.

Typical of pop acts in the mid-sixties, Ray Brown and The Whispers resulted from a former instrumental group (the Nocturnes) finding themselves a singer in order to bring themselves in line with the Group Quake led by the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Together Ray and The Whispers became one of Australia's most popular pop acts of the day.

On paper Ray Brown and The Whispers were a repetition of the formula which had taken Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs to success. They replaced the Aztecs as resident group at Sydney's premier teenage venue Surf City, when Billy Thorpe and his group were enjoying national hits and touring interstate. Ray and the Whispers shared management with Billy and the Aztecs. Both acts tended to source their songs from a similar slightly-obscure fund of American soul. Both singers had distinctive voices. But there the similarity ended. While the Aztecs' erratic performance on record was carried by their popularity and Billy's personality, Ray Brown and the Whispers' recordings were far more consistent but when it counted Ray didn't have Billy's resiliance to see him through.

Ray Brown and the Whispers burst onto the charts in May 1965 with '20 Miles', originally recorded by Chubby Checker without charting in Australia. The Whispers' treatment of the song was quite different, and in keeping with the times. It was a No.1 hit at home in Sydney. The next two singles released where Sydney No.1s as well - 'Pride' (YouTube) and 'Fool Fool Fool' - and top ten nationally, as were 'In The Midnight Hour' and 'Tennessee Waltz'. "Howlspace"

Cattletruck - Ready To Believe

The origins of Melbourne band Cattletruck lay in a one time St. Kilda bar band going by the name Caught In A Cattletruck. Paul Janovskis (vocals/guitar), Tony Dennis (bass), Charles Todd (saxophone), and James Martin (drums), started out playing a basic acoustic brand country-blues, born of their mutual affection for the roots music of Johnny Cash, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, and pre-Army Elvis Presley. Having shortened their moniker to the more manageable Cattletruck, in early 1985 Janovskis and Dennis decided to do a Dylan and electrify their sound. Keyboardist Phil Viggiano and trumpet player Peter Knight were brought on board to both expand the line-up, and give them a bigger sound, whilst original sax player Todd was replaced by Nick Cross. Cattletruck recorded the single ‘Never Is’ and had it produced independently (a big call in those days). They gave away copies of ‘Never Is’ to fans who attended one of Cattletruck’s headliner gigs at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Melbourne, in December 1985.

Cattletruck’s lively, pulsating brand of rock and blues, soon had them filling support gigs for A-list Australian acts like Hoodoo Gurus, The Saints, Australian Crawl, Models and a number of high profile international acts, such as Los Lobos, The Violent Femmes and Lloyd Cole & The Commotions (see Oct post). With so much big venue exposure, and a growing repertoire of original numbers, Cattletruck were a natural to be signed to the respected Regular label.

By the time Cattletruck pulled into the studio in 1986 to record tracks for their debut album, the line-up on board was Janovskis, Dennis, Viggiano, Knight, Cross, and new drummer Bruce Coombs. The band’s first single hit the stores in October ‘86, but ‘Change’ only skirted around the lower reaches of the Australian chart (#81). The follow up single ‘Leave Me’ left the record store shelves at a reasonable enough rate to give Cattletruck their first top forty hit (#39) in May ‘87. English producer Dave Courtnay was flown over to produce Cattletruck’s debut album. Courtnay brought a degree of rock pedigree to the table, having a C.V. that included Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and Three Dog Night. He basically let the lads in Cattletruck have their head to unleash their effervescent, vibrant brand of performance. Several tracks on the album also benefited from the sublime vocal harmonies of Vika and Linda Bull (The Black Sorrows). A mix of rock, pop, country, R&B, and traditional blues amalgamated to form the album ‘Ready To Believe’ (OZ#58). No doubt the diversity of music satisfied the interests of band members, but possibly proved to be a little too diverse for record buyers, making the album a tad difficult to categorise. The next single ‘Rain’ (OZ#56) didn’t exactly create a downpour of demand, but the band had their best offering laying in wait.

Cattletruck’s version of ‘Resurrection Shuffle’ was released in November ‘87, and within weeks was stampeding the national charts. The song was a cover of the 1971 hit by Ashton, Gardner & Dyke (US#40/UK#3/OZ#16). Whilst Cattletruck’s version (OZ#33) didn’t ascend to those heights, it was a kick arse, high energy take on a rock and roll classic. The surging brass backing, and driving rock beat, were perfectly matched to Paul Janovskis raucous vocals. Every time I hear the track it brings to mind something that current Australian punk rock powerhouse The Living End would take on.

‘Resurrection Shuffle’ proved to be the highpoint on the road for Cattletruck. The next two singles ‘Ready To Believe’ in March ‘88, and ‘(It’s Not Such A) Bad Life’ in June ‘88, both drove on past the charts without making a stop. At the end of 1988 vocalist/guitarist Paul Janovskis left Cattletruck, dealing a body blow to the band. They toured throughout 1989 with a new line-up, which added vocalist Gary Young, guitarist Scott Kingman, and saxophonist Steve Colebrook to the remaining members Tony Dennis, Peter Knight and Bruce Coombs. Over the course of the year the crowds dwindled and the venues became smaller. With little prospect of recording more material, Cattletruck pulled over to the side of the rock and roll highway, and its members duly disembarked for good.

Whilst Cattletruck was coming to a slow and steady stop, former front man Paul Janovskis had changed his name to Paul Dean, and formed a new band called Gas, with guitarist Brett Kingman (brother of Cattletruck’s new guitarist Scott Kingman). Kingman, of the Brett variety, was ex of Uncanny X-Men and the James Reyne Band, so there was no doubting his credentials. Completing the Gas line-up were the jazz-trained Tailby brothers, Greg (drums) and Rick (bass). They provided an effective jazz-swing rhythmic counter balance to Dean and Kingman’s hard rock drive out front.

Gas was connected at the Mushroom label, and issued their debut album ‘Burn So Bright’ in June 1990. The album spawned the title track and ‘Empty Dreams’ as singles, but none managed to light up the charts. The Tailby Brothers and Kingman all left in 1991 (Kingman went on to join Bigger Than Jesus), and were replaced by bassist Brett Goldsmith (ex-Chantoozies), guitarist Peter Dickson, and drummer Brett Luton (ex-Geisha - see previous post). But the new line-up didn’t settle, and before long Gas had evaporated into Australian rock history.

Peter Posa New Zealand's Rob EG had recorded a number of singles and then in 1963 he had his first big hit in NZ and Australia with the hit single "White Rabbit" and even in that wonderful year of 1963, when the Beatles had just arrived and the charts were overflowing with million sellers, it received enormous airplay. Peter was now headlining his own national tour with co-artists Bill and Boyd, and Max Merritt and the Meteors. A string of hit records followed, the same composers came up with "The Mad Hatter", then Margaret Raggett of Gisbourne penned "Grasshopper" and "Hitch Hiker". Peter himself wrote "Gonk", named after the fluffy toy of the moment, and then the track mysteriously called "?", and the radio contest to find it's name, which was eventually "Flapjack".

1963 and 1964 were one long whirl, Peter says he worked 363 out of 365 days in one of those years. On top of his New Zealand shows, he toured Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji, Tahiti and Vanuatu. To cap it all off, Viking's Ron Dalton arranged for "White Rabbit" to be released in the USA and for Peter to do six months work there. Before he left, his farewell tour, the "Peter Posa Spectacular" swept through the country, which took about eight weeks so huge was the public interest.In Nashville, Peter spent time at all the major recording studios and met his hero Chet Atkins. He played on the TV show Hollywood Palace where he was accompanied by the legendary jazz guitarist Herb Ellis. He met Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in Las Vegas, and worked his gigs mainly in LA.

But there was a downside as well. The "White Rabbit" had been released on a small independent label and there was little promotion. What's more Peter was on his own in the States and very homesick. So he made the decision to come home for Christmas 1964 and to confine his future touring to the South Pacific.

She has appeared at 2 Royal Command performances and on every major television program throughout Australia. She released 4 singles and a 12" on the Infinity lable in the late 70's. She also released a single and an album for Sundown Records in Queensland. The single being "Love You Brisbane"the song was used in a popular promotion for Brisbane BTQ7 she also recorded a simmilar promotion for Perth called believe it or not "Love You Perth". Kim also sang the title for "The Henderson Kids" which ran on Network Ten in the Eighties.

In the early 1980s there was a revival of interest in The Masters Apprentices due partly to rock historian Glenn A. Baker, who featured the band for his Rock & Roll Trivia Show on Sydney radio's Triple J, which in turn led to the release of a definitive compilation LP, Hands of Time by Baker's Raven Records in 1981. The classic Burgess, Ford, Keays and Wheatley lineup reformed in August 1987 for a "Back to the 1960s" special on the popular TV variety show Hey Hey It's Saturday. It marked the first time all four had played together since Wheatley had left in late 1971. They undertook a reunion tour during 1988 and released an album, Do What You Wanna Do, (is it really that long ago) featuring new material and new versions of their earlier songs, from which they lifted the single "Birth of the Beat". The perennial "Because I Love You" also gained new prominence around that time via its use in a series of advertisements for a well-known brand of jeans; the revamped version of "Because I Love You" peaked at #30 on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Singles Charts.

The Vibrants were a mid 1960s Australian pop rock group that emerged from Bobby James and the Vibrants in Adelaide. They charted with "Something About You Baby" and "My Prayer" as The Vibrants, after their lead singer left the band to form the Bobby James Syndicate. After little further success, they broke up in October 1968, when the group split into two bands, called The Graduate and The New Vibrants.

The 1860 Band were named after the 1860 Tavern in Wellington, where they were the Saturday afternoon resident act. Formed by Rodger Fox (The Rodger Fox Big Band, Quincy Conserve) the band also included Dave Pearson and other Quincy Conserve members Peter Blake, Billy Brown, Geoff Culverwell and Martin Winch (Espresso Guitar).

Mark Holden was a singer and film actor. He was an original cast member of soap opera The Young Doctors when it began in late 1976. Film roles included Blue Fire Lady and "Newsfront". Mark was the first pop star in the world to originate the lead role in 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' in the first Australian production of the Webber and Rice musical.

He won three Logies and performed for HRH The Prince of Wales at the Sydney Opera House. He hosted the infamous 'Silver Jubilee Countdown' amongst many other Countdown appearances and hostings. In 2007 he has appeared in cameo acting roles on Kath & Kim, NBC's 'The Starter Wife' with Debra Messing and as an Immigration Detention Officer on SBS's Fat Pizza .

Mark was a pop singer in the 1970s, having hits with songs such as Never Gonna Fall in Love Again and making several appearances on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's popular television series Countdown.

Relocating to Los Angeles in 1980 and as a songwriter, he had two Top Ten hits with the Temptations on Motown – ‘Lady Soul’ which is included on the 'Motown Greatest Hits 1972-92 Hitsville USA' CD Compilation and ‘Look What You Started’ which features on the definitive Tempations compilation 'The Emperors Of Soul' .

There were also hits with Tracie Spencer, Joey Lawrence, Will Downing, a #1 dance hit with Kathy Sledge, and over 50 cover recordings of his songs from artists as varied as Belinda Carlisle, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, The Manhattans, Donnie Osmond, Jose Feliciano, Fleetwood Mac, David Hasselhoff and Branford Marsalis.

He also developed and produced artists including Calvin Klein model and film star Milla Jovovich ('Chaplin', 'Blue Lagoon 2', 'Dazed and Confused', 'The 5th Element'), for EMI Records Group, New York. This led to her debut album; a US Top Ten Post Modern hit, it won critical raves including a 3 star review in Rolling Stone magazine.

For three years Mark worked with David Hasselhoff, producing and coordinating his albums, live promotion and musical projects for television, particularly in Europe where David enjoyed multi-platinum successes including the Top Ten hit in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, ‘Wir Zwei Allein Heut Nacht’ (‘Together alone tonight’) which Mark wrote with David Hasselhoff.

Rynsaardt are a powerful, 3 piece progressive blues outfit from Sydney who are fast gaining a reputation as one of the best young bands in the country. The band is known for the crazed, other worldly performances of Jan Rynsaardt (guitar/vocalist for the group) driven by a fat, funky bottom end in the form of Dean Calkin on Bass, and Ekko Gaha, drums. They have a growing following Australia wide and bring a unique, heavy, blues/roots style of music with its own stamp of originality to the stage.
The band Rynsaadt began when Jan Rynsaardt teamed up with bass player Dean Calkin and drummer Ekko Gaha - the three hit it off from the word go. It was obvious from the very first blow that there was a unique energy surrounding the group that each gave to the other. This energy was shared then spat out in a frenzy of fat grooves, twisted and contorted feelings that became the big sound of Rynsaardt as known today. Although it's hard to put a label on the type of music they play, one way to describe it is a blues based band with an eclectic mix of funk, rock and metal. The band considers themselves an original act and hold preference to this though are prone to unleash a variety of red hot covers from legends such as Jimmy Hendrix, Albert King and Muddy Waters.
Rynsaardt have played Bridgetown Blues Fest in W.A, closed the show at the Great Southern Blues and Rockabilly Festival at Narooma N.S.W, shared the stage with INXS and Killing Heidi at the Harley Davidson Open Road 100th Anniversary Tour and, more recently, played two explosive shows at the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Byron Bay that left the crowd crying out for more.

Craig McLachlan (born 1 September 1965) first appeared on television in a guest role on the soap Sons and Daughters in late 1986. He then became very well known in 1987 when he landed the role of Henry Ramsay, brother of Kylie Minogue's character Charlene, in Neighbours. Two years later, he defected to a rival show, Home and Away, playing schoolteacher Grant Mitchell.

McLachlan has also had success as a singer, capitalising on his popularity in Neighbours to score Australian and UK hit singles with pop tunes such as his remake of the Bo Diddley song "Mona" (AUS#3 / UK#2, 1990), "Amanda" (AUS#23 / UK#19, 1990), and "On My Own" (AUS#23, 1991).

Daryl Braithwaite - All I Do

In 1988, Braithwaite recorded and released his comeback album Edge. This LP featured a somewhat more adult contemporary sound than Braithwaite's previous work, and spawned four hit singles that returned him to the Australian singles charts after an absence of nearly a decade. Two of these hits, "As The Days Go By" and "All I Do", were penned by Canadian songwriter Ian Thomas; a third, "One Summer", was a Braithwaite original.

Braithwaite went on to have a number of solo hits in the early 1990s, including the Australian No. 1 "The Horses", a cover of a Rickie Lee Jones recording written by Jones and Walter Becker. He also made his first US chart appearance as a solo artist at No. 47 with the 1991 single "Higher than Hope", a song he co-wrote with Simon Hussey. By the end of 1991, Braithwaite's Rise album had become Australia's biggest selling CD of the year, and Edge had become the best selling album ever released by Sony Music Australia to that time.

Braithwaite then worked alongside Jef Scott, Simon Hussey and James Reyne to create the 1992 album Company of Strangers. Braithwaite sang lead or co-lead vocals on 4 of the album's tracks, including two Australian top 40 singles: "Motor City (I Get Lost)" (#26, 1992) and "Daddy's Gonna Make You A Star" (#35, 1993).

His comeback success was somewhat derailed by a 1992 lawsuit, in which his former managers sued Braithwaite for back payment of fees owing. The suit was successful, and Braithwaite essentially had to give up all the revenue he made from Edge and Rise, as well as a portion of the revenue from his next album, 1993's Taste The Salt. This last-named album was only moderately successful, and after a 1994 'best-of' collection was released, Braithwaite was dropped by his record company. He did not record another album for 12 years.

Dianna Trask - Oh Boy

Born in a lumber camp town near Melbourne, Dianna learned to sing at an early age singing at school functions and for her family. At age 16, she became a part of a singing group and she soon opened for top stars like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. that were touring Australia. It was Frank and Sammy that wanted Dianna to move to America to further her solo career there. She started out becoming a regular on Don McNeill's Breakfast Club TV Show and appeared as a dancer and singer on the Jack Benny TV show. She soon was noticed by conductor Mitch Miller who in 1960 decided to give her a recording contract with Columbia Records and also as a regular on his show Sing Along with Mitch. Dianna released two albums in 1961 and 1962 geared at the pop market but none of these were successful. After Miller's show was cancelled in 1964, she and her new husband Thom McEwen decided to move back to Australia so she could restart her career there.

In 1967, Dianna and her husband moved back to the United States and settled in Nashville so that she could become a country singer. She signed with Dial Records that year, and in early 1968 had her first country chart single with "Lock, Stock, and Teardrops" which was a minor hit only reaching the top 70. It was enough to garner her a major record deal with Dot Records that same year and she released an album which would become her nickname "Miss Country Soul", later released in the UK on Ember Records. The album featured versions of R & B hits like "Hold On To What You Got", "Show Me", and others and also displayed her soulful voice as well. The album drew critical acclaim but the single released "Hold On To What You Got" only reached the top 60. It wasn't until 1970 when Diana first reached the Top 40 on the country charts with her version of Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces" and "Beneath Still Waters" (a decade later a Number 1 hit for Emmylou Harris). Starting in 1972, she started a string of major hits with songs like "We've Got To Work It Out Between Us" (1972), "It Meant Nothing To Me" (1972), and 4 straight Top 20 hits with "Say When" (1973), "It's A Man's World (When You Have A Man Like Mine)" (1973), "When I Get My Hands On You" (1974), and "Lean It All On Me" (1974), which would become her biggest hit reaching #13 on the country charts and a minor pop hit as well nearly breaking into the Top 100.

Dianna continued with ABC/Dot Records in which Dot had absorbed into with two more hits with "If You Wanna Hold On (Hold On To Your Man)" (1974) and "Oh Boy" (1975). These hits would become her last major hits to chart. She continued releasing albums and singles with the label until 1977. She made a brief comeback on the Kari label in 1981 with two minor hits with "This Must Be My Ship" and "Stirrin' Up Feelin's". After this, she and her husband moved back to Australia where she resumed her career there. Today, she is retired from the music business.
